I am a LMHC and have been in practice for 37 years! I have a private practice in downtown Seattle and specialize in Eating Disorders and Relationship Issues. I knew I wanted to be a therapist in High School. My mom, my Grandma, my Aunt Lady and my Friends all said ” You should be a counselor.” I remember sitting on the side of my bed when I was probably 21 and thinking I really want to help women have more confidence. It was a calling of mine early on. I have loved it ever since, I never had a Plan B.
Then, skipping forward several decades…The internet happened. In about 2001 I put up a website, I sure wish I had saved a picture of it now:). But I didn’t really know what to do with it. A few clients contacted me that way, but not many.
I just had the site up, I wasn’t doing much with it, and Social Media wasn’t here yet.
So I just went back to doing my private practice work. In 2008 I started learning about how to build my private practice using my website and online tools. About that time, I realized one day, I wasn’t getting many phone calls. I was a bit alarmed. You know how you get scared when the phone doesn’t ring? Then I realized that most of my clients were contacting me by e-mail. AND, my income since that time has tripled.
While learning all this online marking I was SHOCKED to realize I LOVE it! I have spent a lot of money, time and energy in the past 3 years learning how to use technology and marketing to grow not only my practice, but my business. At this stage in my life I feel so lucky to have something else that I also love doing and am passionate about.
I have built 6 sites now, counting this one 
. One day a few weeks ago I was having lunch with a couple of therapists and was telling them what they need to do to use online tools to help get more clients. I do this all the time when I meet other Health Care Professionals, I just won’t shut up. They said I really should help other health care professionals do this, and it dawned on me that I do love it. So here we are.
We therapists have hidden away for too many years, we need to let people know we are here and that we can make a big difference, if not, we are going to be taken over by COACHES!
